HeadSpace

I named the painting/collage HeadSpace because the main message of the piece is having a safe space to go to you-re stressed or sad. The past couple of days I have been going through a rough patch in my life and having a safe space to rely on has been very helpful. The background of the painting is very colorful and old liking because I love vintage pieces whether it's clothing or artwork and its very colorful because I love using color in my work. The paper flower next to me represents my love for nature and wildlife. The person facing the wall is me and the reason why I have a fishbowl over my head is because I love marine biology.

  7. The message behind the piece is very powerful because mental health is extremely important and important to me in my own life. I mostly love the fact that I can relate to your piece and how much you nailed the Romare Bearden style.

  8. HeadSpace is the most honest piece you've created. I know along with your good days, you had many bad days and this tell a very emotional story. Your paint and shading on the objects are strong and I couldn't of thought smarter way to make a window. The piece is fire(bad pun) and there's nothing I would change about it.

  9. This is honestly an amazing piece Makala! It is so you and so personal. It shows a side of your emotions and of who you are, and I really like that about this piece. The detail of specific things made this piece come alive so much!

  10. The thing that really sticks out to me is your message this piece is the way you captured perspective in your collage. I can see the girl in the artwork is really close to the camera and the window is even farther away while the chaos behind it is even farther. Perspective is usually not a focus when making collages, so when I saw it your piece I was pleasantly surprised at how well it comes together. Also, like Ari said the window was masterfully done and the textures of the boards really make the window pop out. Your imagination is crazy and I would love to see more from it.
